Cat Adoptions

Start the search for your new companion with the pictures below...
...then click to the pages that follow
for more available cats (dogs, too...if we have any). If you
are over 60 years of age,
you may qualify for the Pets
for the Elderly program. If you are
looking for a dog, check out our
dog adoption page.
Looking for a cat to bring to your loving home?
Read about the Happy Tails
pet for
details on how and why our cats are different from those in other
shelters you might visit. Once you decide that you will make
a great pet
guardian for a Happy Tails cat, you can either visit the Happy
Tails Adoption Center or stop by an alternate adoption
location to start the process. While we try to keep our
web pages up to date, Happy Tails animals are in great demand,
often making it difficult to post a photo and description before
the animal has been adopted. Therefore, we strongly recommend
that
you visit our Adoption Center for a better idea of the Happy
Tails animals currently available for adoption.
If you are interested in one of the animals described on this web site and are inquiring by e-mail, be sure to include your name and phone number in the e-mail message so that we can get back to you. The foster home will be able to call and give you more information. Not all animals are available at each adoption location. You can call (916) 556-1155 to find out more about an animal and where you can go to meet it, or you can send an e-mail message to purrball@happytails.org
Be sure to check our Gallery too.
The Gallery contains photos of some of the newly rescued
cats residing at our Adoption Center located at 721 -
56th Street at H Street in Sacramento. Click Gallery. |

BLACK BUZZ (formerly Clara): EDB 4/05, black and white tuxedo, long hair
Black Buzz was adopted as a kitten from Happy Tails in July 2005, with her sister, Buzz (formerly Cloud). Because they have always been together, we require that they be adopted together – it would just be too hard on them at this point in their lives to be separated. Their owner had to move and his new place will not allow him to have his feline friends, so he reluctantly brought them back to Happy Tails May 1, 2008. Black Buzz appears to be the more secure, outgoing of the two, but they are both still settling in and a little scared. But you can tell they are both really nice, well adjusted cats – and they are just beautiful. They would really like to get another home really soon, and we are confident that they will. So, if you are interested, you had better come in to look at them right away before they get grabbed up.

MR. JOE
I'm a large flame-point Siamese sort of guy. I am looking for a cat-free home (except for me, of course) where I can have you all to myself. I've tested FIV-positive, but my prognosis is for a normal nine lives. I can be a bit of a couch potato if you let me, but really, I do move around. It's just that I'm four years old and very mellow.

MATILDA
I'm a bit of a character. I can be totally affectionate (on my own terms) and will get along very well as long as you don't pet me around the base of my tail. I'm also fussy where I live. I want a home that doesn't have other cats or children living in it. I'm not sure about dogs. But give me that, and I will reward you with lots of love and affection...a few love bites if I have my way.)
I'm a good-sized cat, extremely smart, and I'd love to read the morning paper with you...that is, if you can read it with my body sprawled all over it. I'll complain loudly if you try to move me, but it's all growl for show.

DUNCAN
I'm an ex-shelter cat who loves to eat. Now, I'm eating canned food twice a day, and I usually "inhale" it and look for more. My foster home has just about broken me of taking my fellow cats' share. I'm living with several other cats and never fight or get into disagreements with them. That's wonderful because I'm FIV positive. I've had complete blood panel taken recently, and my Vet says that I can live to a ripe old age, as long as I stay indoors. I'm about four years old, so that means I'll be around to love you for quite a few more years.

BABY SARAH: EDB 6/01, brown/grey tabby with white, short hair
Baby Sarah was adopted from Happy Tails as a kitten. She was returned in the fall of 2007 because of her owner's health problems. She is a very sweet cat, but very reticent. She likes to be near you and hang out, but she really doesn't like to be handled or to be picked up or to sit on your lap. If you want a companion to just keep you company, she would be a wonderful choice. And, with time, we suspect she might actually decide to crawl on your lap some cold, winter evening to keep both of you warm.

ANNIE: EDB 12/06, brown tabby with white, long hair, declawed
Annie's owner had to go into a rest home and Happy Tails was contacted to come and pick her up. Boy, was she mad about coming to the Adoption Center. We couldn't touch her for days—she just growled and swatted at us. But, gradually she has warmed up. She is a cute, funny girl. She still acts like she doesn't want you to pet her, but if you don't, she comes to get you. We didn't think she would be good with children, but whenever there are little boys at the Center, she won't leave them alone. She tries madly to get them to play with her. So there is a side of her we aren't sure about; she may be destined for a family with boys. She will make you laugh and keep you entertained, so come by and meet her and decide for yourself if she might fit in your home.
