Volunteering Opportunities
If you are interested in one of our many opportunities, please check out our Happy Tails New Volunteer Packet to begin the process. After your application is approved, you will need to attend a mandatory New Volunteer Orientation to learn more about volunteering at Happy Tails. Here are just a few of our many volunteer opportunities: Foster a pet: You provide the TLC, we provide the vet care, food and supplies. All you need to do is make sure that you are able to get your foster animal to and from the vet when needed and to and from the adoption sites. It's fun, rewarding, and helps keep you warm on our cold winter nights. Foster parents agree that it's hard to let your first few animals go. But knowing that when you do, you will be able to open your home to another needy animal makes it all worthwhile. Adoption Counselor: All adoption counselors must attend an Adoption Training session to learn the ins and outs of screening potential adopters and helping them through the pet adoption process. Adoption Screeners (4 to 5 hours a month): Volunteers are trained to screen potential adopters and help them select the perfect pet. Working at the adoption site involves both hands-on work with the animals and communication with potential new pet parents. Adoption Follow-Up (Once a month): Call persons who adopted an animal to verify the well-being of the adopted animal in their new homes (you will be provided with a list of questions to ask), and answer any questions the adopter may have. Fundraising/Special Events: Assist, plan, or coordinate one of the many special events and fundraisers that raise much needed funds for our animals. This is a fun way to help while socializing with volunteers and customers. Adoption Site Cat Care (Once a week or less): Happy Tails keeps cats at the PETsMART location Sunday through Friday. Due to store staffing cuts, it is necessary for a volunteer to go in daily to clean the cages, litter boxes, etc. This also involves visiting with the cats to continue socializing them and giving them some attention. The volunteer can also observe the cats and alert the Foster Home Coordinator of any problems. Computer Entry (1 to 5 hours a month): Skilled volunteers with their own computers are needed for entering records into our database as needed. These tasks can also include preparing forms, flyers, and other documents such as available animal lists for both Happy Tails animals and outside animals. Feral Colony Feeder (1 hour a week or more): Happy Tails maintains several safe, healthy, sterile feral colonies. Volunteers are needed to care for the cats and maintain the feral colonies. You will be trained to feed and water at one location one day or more per week. For futher information and additional volunteering opportunities, check our New Volunteer Packet. We also have a Junior Volunteer Program for those aged 12 to 17. In addition, some opportunities are posted online at Volunteer Match. Click the logo below to access their web site.
